RE: Nebraska SR-2

Hwy 2 in Nebraska will take you through the Sandhills, a very unique geologic and ecologic region. Google "Nebraska Sandhills" and you'll get a lot of information. Hwy 2 is a good, wide 2 lane highway. You shouldn't have any travel problems relating to the road surface, anyway.
Happy travels!!

RE: Ouray, Co.

Fantastic pictures!! I'm jealous as was on the 4X4 only "roads" above Ouray in 1994. My Chevy Blazer was up to the task!
Looks like they get quite a crowd for Jeep Jamboree. Thanks for sharing the pixs!
Happy camping! ..... And off-roading!

RE: 2 WD diesel gets more mileage?

You've never driven a 2wd pickup in an Omaha or midwest snow storm, have you?
I realize that comment wasn't aimed at me, but:
No, but I HAVE driven a 4X2 in Northwest Montana blizzards. However, back then, in that area, EVERYBODY had real mud & snow traction tires in the winter, and there were very few 4X4s, and EVERYBODY put some weight in the back of their trucks.
I have also had the stiff lube in the front axle of a 4X4 put me in the ditch in 2 feet of snow, at 20 below zero. By the time the work day was over, there was practically a road down there from all the rigs who couln't make the turn! I was only the second or third of many. Nearly all of them were 4X4s.
Yes, my two Jeeps are 4X4.
my truck isn't.
The Tioga isn't, either

RE: 2 WD diesel gets more mileage?

Very poor mileage, 4 x 4 are for farmers,Ranchers, loggers, and ult. companies, the rest get them because the guy down the street has one and he can't have more than you.
You've never driven a 2wd pickup in an Omaha or midwest snow storm, have you?
Granted, for highway towing in the sun belt or during the summer, 4X4 isn't necessary. I've used 4wd only a couple of times towing when on a damp, grassy area when boondocking. In 2wd the wheels would spin.
I can't imagine that with the torque and hp of the diesel, whether or not you have 2 or 4wd makes any significant difference in mileage. All I know if you don't have 4wd and need it, well.....
The slight increase of the truck's weight with 4wd slightly lowers the truck's towing capacities. This might help sway your decision, too.

RE: bought new 2500 GMC

Nice purchase on the TV!! You'll love towing with it. I have a Chevy D/A with a short box and after upgrading from a TT to a 2009 FW (Jayco), found I could get by without a slider hitch as the Jayco fiberglass front cap has indentations built-in allowing me to make near 90ยบ turns, even with my 6' pickup box.
Happy trails!

RE: Day trip from Ouray to Lake City???

... without 4-wheel drive. What is the best route?
Uhmmm? Helicopter??
The most direct route from Ouray to Lake City I would not take without 4WD. I was up around the Anamis area a few years ago having taken 550 south of Ouray and then CR20A up and up and up. I was having fun with my 4WD pickup, when low and behold I meet a 2WD station wagon full of people. You could hear it bottoming out on the rocks as it careened down the "road". I still wonder if he made it down safely or without punching a hole in his oil pan.
I'm sure some of the natives in the area will know of a good route for you.
Safe travels!

RE: Jensen TV and Radio/CD/DVD Surround sound system

Our new 5ver has the Jensen AWN960, maybe a setup similar to yours. We use the RCA audio out jacks on the TV with a male RCA to male 1/8" mini stereo adapter plugged into the Aux A/V In jack on the Jensen. Fortunately our LCD TV is 18" from the Jensen. Creates a very good surround sound inside the 5ver! A home theater setup away from home.
You may need to run speaker wire if your TV is a ways away from your radio.
Good luck!

RE: Info wanted on Rear Kitchen in TT

Our last TT was a Homestead 24 rks with a rear kitchen. No problems, DW liked it. A couple of times when we would hit a significant bump, we would find a drawer open and some shelves were rearranged. DW would find fault with the driving/driver! :)
Good luck with your quest!

RE: Fullerton - Raptor Sighting Pulling Doubles on Gilbert

I just had a hitch installed on the back of my 5ver for tandem towing. But it sound like the "train" may have been over legal length (65') for towing in our state. My TV, 5er, and boat trailer put me right at our length limit.

RE: Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve

I have the Fumato drain valve on both of my vehicles and really like it. I have not had any kind of problem with them and will never go back to using a wrench on the drain plug if I get other vehicles.

RE: 2008 Jayco 23FB bugs

We've had our '09 Jayco 28.5 rls for about a month now, and have not found anything that needs to be attended to by our dealership. However, we are still early into the game and have the 2 year warranty to fall back on if need be.
Good luck with your 23FB!!

RE: Jayco Owners - Need your advice

Hi, twins89!
We just got an '09 Jayco Super Light 28.5 rls with one slide containing the sofa and dinette. The sofa is the J steel convertible bed and folds open like a futon bed about 15" high. The bed comes with a 6" thick inflatable mattress that has the ability to adjust the firmness to your comfort level. During our initial "shake down cruise" last weekend we inflated the bed and laid on it, and it is MUCH more comfortable than the jack-knife hide-a-bed our previous TT had...no support bar jabbing you in the back!
Happy shopping!
PS: The U of Buffalo has a former Husker coaching for them. Turner Gill was not only an excellent FB QB, but is an exceptional human being! Hope things go well for the team!

RE: tailgate step

I have the Cabela's tail gate step. It should work for your situation as folds flat. There is only about a 1/8" thick lip that is on the top edge of the tail gate when it is closed.

RE: Finally went the way of the Diesel!

Old man is a dealer and picked me a truck up at an auction for me today. 04' Dodge 3500 quad cab diesel 6-speed 2wd w/low miles. Can't wait to get it home and hook the old trailer up and take it a test pull! Just gives ma an excuse to head to the dealer to check out fifth wheels this weekend!!!!
Congrats on getting a diesel. Welcome to the oil burners fraternity!
I have a diesel that was being under-worked when towing, so I just had to go get a 5th wheel! :W So, beware of driving by any rv showrooms. It'll suck you in!!
You're going to wonder how you ever towed without a diesel once you hook up and take a trip!

RE: WW Pin Box Bolts Issue - WOW!!!

I see the problem...does your buddy have the same TV as you? That Duramax torque is to much for many grades of bolts! (SORRY...couldn't resist!)
I'd be getting into contact with the manufacturer on this. Thankfully the king pin wasn't ripped from the pin box!
